Severe weather ripped through central Iowa today. The storms packed winds over 70 mph…setting off the tornado sirens in several communities. We had .73″ of rainfall at the Des Moines International Airport. Many areas saw much more with some totals over 2″. Downpours caused flash flooding in the metro. Water was over the road at Merle Hay Road…along with may other streets in Des Moines.

We were able to use our new mobile app for smart phones. It’s called 13WarnMe. It will alert you when there are severe storms and allows you to watch our 13.2 Iowa’s Weather Plus live. It will also allow you to quickly upload severe storm photos. We had nearly 300 storm pictures from our viewers this afternoon. Thanks to everyone for using the new technology…I will add several pictures to the blog.

Remember we also have WHO WX HD. It is a great app for smart phones and tablets that allow you to interface with live radar…and get temperatures and forecasts.

Here are some of the best shots from today’s storm.
