FAIR FLAP: Conflicting Stories Over PETA Booth
The controversy over a booth at the Iowa State Fair has each side telling a different story.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals had a booth at the Iowa State Fair that was displaying video of animal abuse investigations in which profanity was included. PETA subtitled the videos – including the profanity.
The group claims fair officials booted them Thursday because of the profanity in the videos and now it wants the money back it spent on the booth.
State Fair officials say they didn’t boot PETA and simply asked them not to use the video containing profanity. They say the group’s original application was approved, but PETA did not submit any video to them for approval to be played in the booth.
Fair officials say PETA packed up their booth and left rather than continue the display without the video.
According to a statement by the fair, PETA will forfeit the fee paid for the booth if it doesn’t return to the fair.
