FALLEN TV: Toddler Still In Critical Condition
It’s every family’s worst nightmare.
“She was just saying she can’t breathe, she can’t breathe,” said Ashley Kuyrkendall, the aunt of the 2 year old.
A tragic accident and the victim is two year old Aleena Coe.
“She lights up the room. She’s a very playful little girl,” said Kuyrkendall.
According, Ashley Kuyrkendall, the toddler was in the living room with her four year old sister when she pulled a large, older television on to her upper body.
“She wasn’t breathing at all.”
The mother then grabbed Aleena and pled for help from neighbors.
She was able to stop an older gentleman driving through the neighborhood who performed CPR until help arrived.
That man and Aleena were taken to the hospital. She remains in critical condition.
“They put some things in her brain to stop the swelling and are doing cat scans and stuff.”
With Aleena in the hospital, the family has one simple request for Des Moines residents.
“We want everybody’s prayers that she’ll be okay. We just want everybody to pray for her.”
Doctors have told the family that the next 72 hours are critical to Aleena’s survival as they’ll learn of potential damage to her brain.
Aleena’s family is hopeful that the playful two year old will soon be back at daycare with her closest friend.
“She loves her sister. They’re always side by side.”
The family has set up an account to help Aleena’s mother pay her medical bills.
Donations are being accepted at the community state bank on East 14th Street and Euclid in Des Moines.
