School begins this week for many Des Moines metro students.

Ankeny heads back to class this Wednesday and Johnston goes back on Thursday. Urbandale, West Des Moines and Des Moines don’t begin until next week.

This year Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Reynolds want to get more involved with students, and they hope to do so with the help of Skype.

They’ve started a new program called “Skype Your School.”

The governor and lieutenant governor say students, teachers of administrators can request a Skype session with them.

It allows the state leaders to talk directly with students through the computer program.

“A we work every day to give Iowa students a world class education we believe it’s important for them to be engaged with elected officials as well,” says Branstad.

Teachers and students can request a chat session by going to the governor’s website.
