RESTAURANT ROBBERY: Money Taken From Safe

A popular bar and restaurant was burglarized this morning.  It happened at the Continental in the East Village before business hours.

Security video caught the man walking in through an unlocked door and helping himself to the safe.  The suspect is covered from head to toe and spent only a few moments in the business. 

Workers say the fact that he knew where to go and when the safe would be unlocked leaves them with an unsettling feeling.

“They just knew exactly where they were going and what time to take it and everything.  Yeah, it’s scary.  It’s a frightening thing to think that someone would do something like that,” says Jennifer Frank.

Frank says the man was wearing baggy clothes, a hat and gloves.   The video shows him hiding his face from the camera.

The Continental says the thief got away with more than $1,000.  Des Moines police were called to investigate the burglary.
