Hy-Vee is planning a special “Welcome Home” celebration to honor Iowa athletes who competed for Team USA in the London 2012 Olympics.

The event is hosted by Channel 13’s Keith Murphy and will be held Saturday, August 18th at Drake’s Knapp Center.  It begins at 11:00 a.m. and is free and open to the public.

Invitations went out last week and some confirmed guests include Gabby Douglas, winner of two gold medals in gymnastics; Liang Chow, Douglas’s coach; Lisa Uhl, track and field athlete; and Miranda Leek, competitor in archery. More confirmations are expected this week as the athletes return home from London.

Also attending the event, Shawn Johnson, gold medalist in gymnastics at the 2008 Beijing Games, and Natasha Kaiser-Brown, head men’s and women’s track coach at Drake and a silver medalist at the 1992 Games in Barcelona.

Doors open at 10, no tickets are required.
