DOG SHOT: Officer Shoots Dog He Says Was Attacking Him

According to a police report, a Des Moines police officer shot a dog after it attacked him near the State Fair grounds.

Police were called to the 200 block of East 32nd street on reports of pit bull attacking people. 

According to the report, there were two dogs outside when the officers arrived.  An officer was trying to put the dogs back in their yard, when one attacked him.  The officer shot the dog while closing the gate.

The ARL responded and citations were issued.  The dog has returned home after getting stitches.

The police reports states that the dog was a pit bull, but the family says it is a boxer-mix. 

The family is considering legal action.
