FEDERAL CASE: Sentencing Set For Dautovic
A former Des Moines police officer will be sentenced for his crimes on November 15th.
Last week a jury convicted Mersed Dautovic of using excessive force and obstruction of justice.
The charges stem from the arrest of Octavious Bonds and Erin Evans during a traffic stop in 2008.
Bonds was hit repeatedly with a police baton and suffered extensive injuries.
Dautovic was eventually fired from the police force.
He still faces state charges of willful injury, felony misconduct and perjury. Dautovic goes to trial on those charges in October.
Bonds and Evans were awarded half-a-million-dollars as part of a lawsuit filed against the city of Des Moines.
