It happened at 11 PM Sunday night in the small town of Arispe.
“We thought it was firecrackers going off. It was a constant bang, bang, bang,” said Arispe resident, Christine Neely.
“I looked down the street and there was a helicopter, a bunch of cops, and ambulances,” Maryl Schakel, an Arispe resident told Channel 13 News.
Officers responded to the home of 60 year old Ronald Anderson and his wife, 52 year old Laura Maxfield-Anderson.
Moments before they arrived, they say the couple shot at each other outside their home following an argument.
“Our neighbor went down and said that she had shot him, he turned around and started shooting her. The house had gun shots everywhere,” said Neely.
The Department of Criminal Investigation was on the scene this morning where they recovered shell casings, just yards away from where children ride their four wheelers.
“I could have gotten shot. My kids could have gotten shot.”
Thankfully, no one else was hit. However, both Ronald and Laura were airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines for their injuries where they’re in fair condition.
The Department of Criminal Investigation will submit their report to the Union County attorney tomorrow.
It will be up to him to decide if any charges will be filed against the couple.
