DIVER FOUND: Body Located In Lake Michigan

An Iowa diver who disappeared more than a decade ago is no longer considered missing.

Fifty-two-year-old Dirk Kahn of Guttenberg went missing in 1999 while on a diving excursion in Lake Michigan.

Divers spotted his body this weekend not far from where he was last seen.

Investigators say his body was intact inside his wetsuit thanks to the pressure of the water keeping in gases that normally aid decomposition.

Experienced divers say the cold temperatures at the bottom of Lake Michigan also helped preserve Kahn’s body the past 13 years

Along with being an experienced diver, Kahn was an inventor and had several business ventures.

Kahn Manufacturing still operates in Guttenberg and is still one of the community’s largest employers.
