ARSON CASE: Former Police Officer’s Trial Moved
The trial of a former Forest City police officer shot by Division of Criminal Investigation agents last October has been moved because of pre-trial publicity.
The Mason City Globe-Gazette is reporting Thaddeus Ellenbecker’s arson trial will take place in Mitchell County instead of Winnebago County. He is charged with second degree burglary and second degree arson.
Ellenbecker is accused of setting fire to the Forest City Police Station in 2010.
Two DCI agents shot Ellenbecker October 20th, 2011. The two went to his home after questioning Ellenbecker earlier in the day. When the agents showed up they got into some sort of struggle with him and that’s when he was shot.
An investigation cleared the agents of any wrongdoing.
Ellenbecker’s trial has been set for September 10th.
