GREAT STRIDES: Iowa Sailor Walking On New Legs
An Iowa Sailor severely injured in Afghanistan is making great strides in his recovery.
In May, Taylor Morris of Cedar Falls lost both legs, his left arm and his right hand in an IED explosion.
He has spent the last four months in therapy at Walter Reed Medical Center.
Now, the sailor’s family says he’s walking on his prosthetic legs and using his prosthetic arms for daily activities.
One of the sailor’s closest friends is helping Iowans keep tabs of Morris by posting his achievements online.
Ben Hagarty says Iowans are responding to Morris’ achievement online and in letters.
It’s incredible. I don’t think, if he didn’t have that response from people, I don’t know where he would be at right now. He’d be fighting, but he wouldn’t be able to fight this hard,” said Hagarty.
Hagarty, along with Morris’ sister, are organizing a 5K Glow Stick Run in Morris’ honor.
The event kicks off at 7:30 Saturday night.
