MAN FIRED: Man Pays For 49 Year Old Prank

A Des Moines man is fired from his job, because of a prank that he pulled almost 50-years ago.  68-year old Richard Eggers was just 18-years old when he was arrested.  But because of new banking regulations designed to target bank executives with histories of fraud, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage fired him from his job in the call center, a job he’s held for the past seven years.  Eggers crime?

“I was a college student at the time.” Eggers explains,  “I had gone with a friend to the laundromat to keep him company while he did his laundry.  I got bored waiting on the laundry and started cutting out dime sized pieces of cardboard to see if they’d work in the washing machines.”

Eggers was caught stuffing the cardboard into a machine and convicted of “operating a coin machine by false means” in 1963.  That conviction showed up as “Fraud” in Eggers’ background check.  He plans to ask for a waiver.  A spokeswoman for Wells Fargo says with the new regulations, there is little wiggle room for financial institutions.
