HEAD-ON CRASH: Grand Avenue Accident

Two people were injured Tuesday morning after a head-on accident in West Des Moines.

The accident happened around 9:20 a.m. in the 1600 block of Grand Avenue. Police say 47-year-old Melissa Neubauer of Slater was driving westbound on Grand Avenue when her Ford Fusion crossed the center lane and struck a Pontiac Bonneville head-on. Forty-six-year-old Anthony Griffin of West Des Moines was the driver of the Bonneville.

Both drivers were taken to local hospitals but their injuries didn’t appear to be life-threatening.

Police say they’re unsure why Neubauer crossed the center line, but witnesses told police it didn’t look like speed was a factor.

Charges against Neubauer are pending.
