BACK HOME: Soldier Gets Hero’s Welcome

The Cedar Falls community is welcoming home a very brave sailor. 

Taylor Morris lost portions of all four of his limbs in an explosion in Afghanistan last May.  A crowd of well-wishers greeted Morris at the Waterloo airport Thursday.  Hundreds of others lined the roads from the airport to Cedar Falls.

Morris and his girlfriend are visiting this weekend to attend a friend’s wedding.  After the wedding, he’ll return to Walter Reed Medical Center to continue his rehabilitation.

Cedar Falls elementary kids have been waiting for Morris’ return since finding out about it earlier this week.  Second graders at Lincoln Elementary have never met Morris, but they understand who they’re making posters for.

Their teacher says the class talks about bravery and serving our country.

The students feel a connection to Morris because he is a Lincoln Elementary alum.
