APPLE PICKING: Shortage Possible

It is apple hunting season, but apples may be harder to come by this year.

This time, the drought is not to blame; the shortage is the fault of the late freeze this past April.

It killed many apple buds drastically reducing this fall’s harvest.

“If there is any year to support your local orchard, boy it’s this year because this is when the orchards in Iowa are really going to need everybody to come out because I know there is a shortage of fruit this season.” Bryan said.

The owners of Iowa Orchard in Urbandale say they did lose some of their crop in April, but because of the size of the orchard they won’t see a shortage until March.
