FATAL ACCIDENT: Car Ends Up In Pond
Des Moines Police are investigating a fatal accident Monday.
At around 7 a.m. police responded to a 911 call about a car in the pond in Waterworks Park.
According to police the car was driving southbound through the park, it struck a cement water pump near the road before ending up in a small run-off pond.
A passerby was able to help the passenger of vehicle, 28 year old Van To get to safety. He was taken to Methodist hospital and treated for a broken arm and minor injuries.
The driver of the car, 23 year old Mang Chan was found to be deceased.
The Water Emergency Team (WET) put a rescue boat in the water and used extrication tools to access the partially submerged vehicle
HAZMAT was called to assist with controlling the release of fuels and oils into the pond before it could be towed from the pond.
