An investigation continues in What Cheer after witnesses say a teenage driver ran-down a mother of three, then just took off.

Sunday night, Courtney Thompson watched her best friend die. 37-year old Christine Smith was just steps from Thompson’s home when she was hit by what witnesses say was a speeding mini van. The driver of the van, 15-year old Adam Gragg, drove off without stopping, witnesses say. Thompson tried to comfort her friend, who had been thrown about 30-feet by the van, but she knew it was already too late. "I knew she wasn't going to make it. Just by the impact. She hit hard."

By law, Gragg should have been driving with an adult at the time of the accident because of his age.

The state patrol says it will wait for the results of an autopsy and toxicology tests before making a determination on charges. That could take three to four weeks.
