A popular Drake coffee shop won’t be closed for long; Mars Cafe has secured new owners.

The café located along University Avenue shut down in August after six years in business.

A new group of owners has stepped in to buy the business, and they hope to have it up and running by September 15th.

New owners Mark Movic, Angela Johnson, Amedeo Rossi and Justin Schoen will operate the business, along with some of the former staff members

“We are all longtime customers of Mars and saw a great business opportunity,” says Schoen.  “Larry created a brand that resonates with the Des Moines community – we plan to continue many of his traditions while making small improvements”.

Plans for a grand opening celebration are still in the works, along with an updated menu, new coffee roaster, and expanded entertainment.

Amedeo Rossi may be a familiar name to you.   He heads up the annual 80-35 Music Festival in Des Moines and he says live music will be a big part of the new Mars Cafe.
