FIRE INVESTIGATION: Vacant Home In Flames
The Des Moines Fire Department is investigating a fire that caused major damage to a vacant home.
Crews were called to 1402 Douglas Avenue around 3:15 Thursday morning.
They found smoke and flames coming from three sides of a vacant two story home. Upon searching for victims they found the home empty of furniture, personal belongings and the utilities shut-off.
Before crew could get it extinguished the fire spread throughout the house and into the attic causing over $40,000 in damages.
Investigators were able to determine that the fire started in a second floor bedroom, but they are still looking into the cause.
