HOMEMADE BOMBS: Detonated In Johnston Park

The Johnston police say they found several bottle bombs in a grassy area of a local park.

Police were called to the trail and park area between Crown Pointe Community Center and Iowa Public Television on Thursday.

The Johnston Fire Department and Des Moines Hazmat were able to safely detonate the devices.

Authorities say the bombs are popular with juveniles who use them as pranks, however they are warning anymore in the area to avoid picking up or going near suspicious bottles because they are dangerous.

The bottles are often unpredictable and can explode unexpectedly harming anyone in close proximity.

Call 911 or the Johnston Police Department directly if you see a suspicious bottle and an officer will respond to investigate.
