HORSEBACK PATROL: City Council To Discuss Patrol

The Des Moines City Council will discuss efforts to fund the police horseback patrol unit.

A $10,000 grant would be used to support the mounted unit, which is made up of officers who use their personal horses for everything from crowd control to public relations.

The unit considers of volunteer officers who use their personal horses for crowd control, to get to place vehicle cannot and for public relations.

The funds would be used to help fund medical bills for the horses and to pay for fuel to transport the animals.
