FISH BARRIER: Bigger Fish In Big Creek
One of Iowa’s busiest lakes is about to get a little more crowded.
Crews have installed a new physical barrier on top of the Big Creek Lake spillway. It is a series of bars that are two inches apart and up 29 inches tall. It will prevent big muskie and walleye from being able to escape.
Until this barrier was built, fish would go over the spillway during high water events.
Big Creek got the idea from an Illinois lake.
The $8,000 fish barrier is being funded by the Army Corps of Engineers and the Iowa DNR.
