NUMBERS UP: Metro Home Sales Increase

Des Moines home sales are outpacing sales from last year.

The Des Moines Area Association of Realtors say 919 contracts closed in August. That’s up 27-percent from last year and 11-percent over the previous month’s sales.

The median home price also jumped from last year to $161,000. That’s up by about $11,000.

The time homes are sitting on the market is also decreasing. Last August homes were on the market for an average of 112 days and this August it was cut to 98 days.
