This weekend there will be a discussion about improving the Skunk River in Story County.

Some work has already been done at Soper’s Mill, including building a rock ripple dam to hold back water that will improve fishing and kayaking.

“Now we’re developing a water trail on the Skunk River there’s going to be 13 different accesses Soper’s Mill is one of those,” says Carol Williams of the Story County Conservation Board.

This Sunday a meeting will be held at Soper’s Mill to talk about getting the Skunk River designated as a state water trail and efforts to keep the river clean. The program starts at 1:30 p.m. Soper’s Mill is on 170th Street in Ames.
