NEW DATA: Study Warns Of Increasing Obesity
A new report shows Iowa’s adult obesity rate will nearly double by 2030.
A new report showing data from the Centers for Disease Control predict Iowa will have an obesity rate at over 54-percent in 18 years. In 2011 it was 29-percent.
Iowa isn’t alone in expecting an increase. If the current trend holds, the report predicts all states will be above 44-percent by 2030.
The report says expanding waistlines means increasing health care costs. Experts say if Iowans worked to lower their Body Mass Index by five-percent, Iowa would instead save money. Five-percent is about 10 pounds in a 200 pound person.
