Des Moines police have released surveillance images of a woman accused of trying to steal an expensive ring from Christopher’s Fine Jewelry.

Police say the attempted theft happened Tuesday around 12:40 p.m. when a woman came into the store and asked to try on a ring. She then asked to try on the matching earrings but was told by an employee she’d have to give back the ring first.

The woman walked out of the store with the ring still on and tried to flee. Employees caught up with her behind the business and were able to get the ring back. One of the employees was assaulted by the woman during the confrontation. The woman was able to get away.

Police describe her as a Hispanic or Indian female in her 30s. She is about five-foot-four and 165 pounds. Police say the large purse she was carrying may be recognizable.
