It’s time for the annual Fall festival to kick off in Marshalltown. Some may only recognize it from its unusual name: Oktemberfest.

For over 25 years now the community has staged this celebration at the end of September, or between the two months of October, and September, hence Oktemberfest.

Event Chair Marilee Weatherman says she enjoys all the events, but especially the big parade Saturday morning. This year 100 floats and 7 marching bands will be featured.

New this year: a Pancake Eating Contest on Sunday morning. Events start on Thursday evening with Little Mr. and Mrs. Oktemberfest, a Kids Run, and the Carnival Rides.
