Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a stranger who confronted two girls in Afton Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the incident happened around 4:45 p.m., near the East Union School Campus and the Afton REC Fields. Two 10-year-old girls say a man driving a green Jeep or Chevy Blazer with a spare tire on the back confronted them, saying something to the effect of “Ha ha ha…look what we have here.”

The girls were immediately alarmed and ran away. Employees of the East Union After School Daycare program were witness to the confrontation and helped the girls get safely to the school campus.

The man is described as a white male 50 to 60 years old with brown eyes and brown hair but bald on top.

Afton Police Chief John Coulter says the man did not try to get the girls into the vehicle but because he had no cause to be speaking to them he could be charged with harassment which is a simple misdemeanor.

Extra school staff and police were on hand Thursday morning at the start of school as a safety precaution.

If you have any information on the incident you’re asked to contact local law enforcement.
