REACHING OUT: Helping Dropouts Return To Class
Saturday the Des Moines community reaches out to kids who’ve dropped out of high school.
Volunteers and Des Moines Public Schools staff will visit 400 kids who’ve decided not to go back to school this fall.
Two-hundred people working in teams of three or four will visit the student at their home to try and give the student resources that help overcome any obstacles they had to getting back to school.
Since the first Reach Out event in 2009 more than 1,200 volunteers convinced 53 students to go back to class.
