FIRE DAMAGE: Downtown Centerville Buildings Burned

A fire in downtown Centerville caused damage to several businesses Tuesday afternoon.

The fire began on the roof of one of the buildings between noon and 1:00 p.m.. The fire spread to an adjacent building. Three businesses are housed in the two buildings that caught fire.

The roof the first building collapsed but there were no injuries.

Eight fire departments were called to the scene to extinguish the fire. Most of the fire is out but crews are working on hot spots.

Fire investigators say they’re looking into the cause of the fire, though they do say there were people working on the roof with grinders shortly before the fire began.

The American Red Cross is helping out by providing hydration and food to firefighters.
