PHILLIPS GUILTY: Former Supervisor Found Guilty

The Des Moines Register is reporting that a former Des Moines City Councilman and Polk County Supervisor is facing up to 10 years in prison. 

The Register reports that Gene Phillips was found guilty of theft for stealing $25,000 from a friend. 

He was acquitted of another charge that he abused a dependant adult. 

Phillips was accused of writing himself an unauthorized check in November of 2008 for $25,000 from the account of a longtime friend and former coworker, Roger Johnson.

An ailing Johnson reportedly gave Phillips control over his accounts following a hospitalization in 2008.
