WORKER INJURED: Alleged Drunk Driver Hits Man

A construction worker was injured after being hit by a drunk driver Friday morning.

The accident happened around 11:30 just north of Des Moines at the intersection of Delaware and NE Broadway.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says Amir Vodenicarevic was removing concrete debris when a Mercury Grand Marquis driven by David Westmoreland struck him. Officials say Westmoreland was driving drunk. He is charged with his third OWI, driving with a suspended license, and failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Vodenicarevic was wearing a reflective vest and his truck had hazard lights on. Officials say he was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a leg injury and possible other injuries.
