Wednesday is the day for the second Governor's Start Somewhere Walk.

One of the planned walks has a special visitor. Legendary Iowa State coach Johnny Orr will be leading the Start Somewhere Walk Wednesday at the Ankeny Hy-Vee.

The walk will be a 1K or about eight city blocks. It takes the average person between 12 and 15 minutes. Last year, more than 290,000 people participated in the walk.

As a part of this effort people are asked to walk and do one other physical activity to kick off the day.

“This walk gives people an opportunity to start tracking their fitness, they can sign up on Iowa's Healthiest State Initiative.com and get involved that way and log the miles that they walk over the course of a year,” says Todd Redenius the director of Ankeny Parks and Rec.

Coach Orr will be at the Ankeny Hy-Vee at 11:00 a.m. and the walk begins at noon.

Several communities across Iowa are also holding walks around the noon hour.
