MURPHY’S LAW: Mihalovich Mess, Rolls Royce Bus, Bad Question

Murphy's Law Generic

Des Moines Public Schools’ investigation into suspended Lincoln High football coach Tom Mihalovich is disturbing. (Read the entire report under the news tab at whotv.com.) The accusation that a coach berated players, spewed profanity, and used physical pain as a form of punishment is surprising only to those who never played football, or somehow never had a coach from that mold.

However, the investigation accusation from assistant coaches that Mihalovich tried to cover up the arrest of a star player so he could stay on the team, is by itself, a fire-able offense, if true. There are other ugly accusations too.

The guess here is this ends with Mihalovich’s dismissal. The original accusation from the family of the player who transferred does not, in my mind, equal grounds for firing a coach who’s done many positive things. Mihalovich supporters would fill a small stadium. However, there’s a pattern of behavior here, that if true, just does not play in 2012. Mihalovich needed to change with the times. My high school coach couldn’t do now what he did then…

Royce White says he wants to take a bus to as many games as possible. He’ll even provide the bus. I hope this all works out, I know Royce’s fear of flying is real, but don’t you think the Rockets were assured by Royce when they interviewed him before the draft that he’d fly?…

Lolo Jones obviously didn’t realize Eric LeGrand is paralyzed when she told him on twitter she’d smoke him in a foot race. Lolo’s one mistake was not just coming right out and publicly apologizing to LeGrand for the misunderstanding. (Update: LeGrand said Friday Lolo did apologize to him directly, and that’s what matters most, even if it didn’t stop PR disaster.)…

The Red Sox fired Bobby Valentine, and ESPN ran a story about him returning in 2013. Nothing wrong with the network having two versions ready to go, but when it happens, admit it. Don’t move along like people are stupid…

The ESPN interview with Liam Neeson about the Jets was an example of an anchor paying no attention to what is being said. Right after Neeson says he doesn’t understand American football at all, Mike Hill follows up with a lengthy question about whether Rex Ryan should start Tim Tebow. File that under SMH…

So mountain lions roaming through Des Moines is not an urban legend?…

Iowa State’s game at TCU is much more winnable with quarterback Casey Pachall suspended for drunk-driving…

Jeff Fisher can coach. The Rams are winning again. That’s proof enough…

Die Hard 5 has been announced. I’m in…

The book “Paterno” is off the best seller list and hasn’t met sales expectations. Much as I respect writer Joe Posnanski, this book deserves a nose dive. I couldn’t even finish it…
