DEFEAT ALS: Walk Raises Money
A walk Saturday will help the people participating, but it will also help victims of a deadly disease.
Saturday is the 3-mile “Walk to Defeat ALS” in Des Moines.
The disease, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, attacks the neuromuscular system.
You can help Iowans with ALS Saturday during a 3-mile walk at Principal Park.
Friday, organizers packed up supplies in preparation for the walk.
The goal is to raise $350,000. As of Friday, they’ve already raised over $287,000. Eighty five-percent of the money raised stays in the state. It helps patients and their families pay for equipment and services, including on-site visits.
You can still register at Principal Park at 9:00 Saturday morning. The walk starts at 10:00.
Organizers are hoping to see more than 2,500 walkers on the course.
