HOUSE FIRE: Des Moines Home Damaged
A Des Moines family is out of its home after an overnight fire.
Crews were called around midnight Sunday to the home at 725 27th Street. That’s south of I-235, near Woodland Cemetery.
Captain Steve Brown with the Des Moines Fire Department tells us the fire started on the back deck, after someone threw out a smoking material. That started a patio chair on fire, then flames went up the siding of the house.
Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire, but around 7:00 Monday morning the fire re-kindled.
Captain Brown says the fire went into the attic and smoke spread into a bedroom.
He says the fire caused about $40,000 in damage.
No one was hurt.
