It’s a big week for the Cyclone football team. Iowa State hosts 6th ranked Kansas State, Saturday. ISU is a 6.5 point underdog. That line proves that the national perception of Iowa State is starting to shift. ISU only a TD dog against a top ten team? That’s rare.

Iowa State fans really think the Cyclones can beat the 5-0 Wildcats, and so do I. Jack Trice Stadium will be rocking. A win would put ISU in the top 20, and (at worst) move the Cyclones into a tie for 2nd in the Big 12. I think this could be a program-defining win for the Clones. But I’m not going to get too far ahead of myself. It was only 9 days ago that ISU made Texas Tech look like Texas.

Micah Hyde is listed as one of Iowa’s starting cornerbacks against Michigan, this weekend — this despite being arrested, Saturday. Hyde pleaded guilty to one charge of interference with official acts, and not guilty to public intoxication. After seeing Ferentz’s statement on Hyde’s arrest, I’m not at all surprised he’s going to play. To be fair, Hyde has never been in trouble before, and he’s a team captain. I’m with Ferentz on this one. Hyde should play.

The last time Hyde and the Hawks visited MSU, Iowa won on a last-second TD.

The Hawks are 10-point underdogs at Michigan State. It’s rare when the Hawks are double-digit dogs, but I think the line is right where it should be. The Spartans whipped the Hawks in Iowa City, last season, 37-21. It was the first time since the Western Michigan loss in 2007 that the Hawks lost a game by more than one possession. Iowa lost three of its last four games by double digits. So far, this season, Iowa’s two losses have been by a combined 4 points. That being said, I think MSU may run away with this one on Saturday.

Today was Drake basketball media day. The Bulldogs lost their best player, Rayvonte Rice, to Illinois. However, head coach Mark Phelps says this year’s team may be his best in 5 years at Drake. I hope he’s right, but I don’t see it. I want Phelps to right the ship on Forest Ave, but I’m worried this could be his last season.

Royce White is back at Rockets camp. It sounds like everything worked out the way White wanted it to. I applaud Royce for being proactive and working to ensure a travel deal that will let him keep his anxiety in check. The only thing I think he and the Rockets should’ve done differently is work ahead. This issue should’ve been taken care of before training camp, not during.

Our photographer, Travis, turned on the Cardinals game in the sports office. Why, Travis? Why?!?! You’re a Cubs fan. So am I. Why subject us to this red mess?

Why does spell check hate the word should’ve? Is should’ve not a word anymore? Should I not use it anymore?
