Establishing a way out of your home in the event of a fire is key to survival.  And it’s the focus of fire prevention week.

Officials say fire moves faster than most people realize, that’s why having an escape plan with two exits is so important.

Officials suggest making a map of your home; one that contains a door and a window exit from every room.

They also urge you to create a designated meeting place for your family outside your home.

More than 20 Iowans have died in fires this year.
