A lawsuit claiming the University of Iowa Law School refused to hire a law teacher because of her political position is underway in federal court in Davenport this week.

The trial started Monday, pitting Teresa Wagner against Carolyn Jones.

Jones is the law school’s former dean. Wagner is suing Jones for alleged discrimination.

Wagner’s attorney says Wagner was the most qualified for the teaching job but was blackballed because of her work as a conservative activist

The university is represented by the Iowa Attorney General’s Office which says Wagner wasn’t hired because she botched the interview.

The trial is expected to last all week.
