This week Des Moines, city leaders will gather public input on a plan to make a stretch of Hubbell Avenue safer.

A meeting is set for Tuesday at 6:00 at the East Side Library.

The plan on the table is to restripe Hubbel from Easton to East 33rd, changing it from four narrow lanes into three wide ones.

It does not include bike lanes.

That idea was taken out after people in the area fought against it.

The stretch of Hubbell under consideration sees about 18 accidents per year.
