In a season of lots of candidates and elections, one issue is taking center stage in Marshalltown.

Calls and emails to the Board of Supervisors are urging them to fix a problem — the silent clock tower bell, which broke several years ago.

Denny Grabenbauer of the Marshall County Board of Supervisors says the board will spend $5,000 to pay a Minnesota company to get the bell working.  Another issue is some of the wooden clock hands slip, causing the time to differ on different sides of the clock. Supervisors plan to look at clock tower repairs at some point in the future.

The courthouse was built in 1886 and the clock tower added in 1900. The clock was last worked on in 1954.
