TEXTING CRASH: Teacher Still Hospitalized

A Des Moines teacher is recovering after Polk County deputies say a teen driver hit him while texting and driving.

Garton Elementary School teacher John Meyer is hospitalized in fair condition. 

Deputies say Meyer was biking along a two lane highway north of Ankeny Friday night when the teen hit him from behind.  The crash report shows the teen was sending a text message at the time of the accident. 

Deputies haven’t announced any charges against the teen.
