Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation agents say the Grundy County clerk of court was arrested for allegedly providing false information on a public record to legalize a marriage that didn’t happen.

An investigation shows two men from Florida contacted 42-year-old Brigitte Van Nice in 2011 to take advantage of Iowa’s legalization of same sex marriage.

Despite the fact that the men never traveled to Iowa, Van Nice filed a marriage license indicating the two were married this year on February 14th in Waterloo.

Van Nice is charged with two counts of forgery and one count of perjury.

She’s been placed on paid administrative leave.
