JOBLESS RATE: September Numbers Decrease
Unemployment numbers for September in Iowa dropped after three-straight months of increases.
Iowa Workforce Development released the latest numbers Friday morning. Iowa saw an unemployment rate of 5.2 percent in September. That’s a three-tenths decrease from August’s rate of 5.5 percent.
“The drop in the September jobless rate was welcome news, but we are still cautious about the job market,” said IWD director Teresa Wahlert. “The employment numbers continued to depict a slow and uneven recovery.”
This is the first decrease in the Iowa unemployment rate since April.
The rate for September in 2011 was 5.9 percent. National unemployment numbers fell to 7.8 percent in September from 8.1 percent in August.
