TEACHER PARALYZED: Texting Teen Suspected
A fund has been established for a Garton Elementary special ed teacher, paralyzed in an accident last week.
Megan Nagel Meyer says her husband, John Meyer, is paralyzed from the chest down and remains hospitalized in stable, but critical condition.
The former National Guard Soldier and avid cyclist was hit by a car while riding his bike near Alleman Friday.
Authorities say the teen behind the wheel was texting at the time of the accident.
Nagel Meyer says, “If it’s true, it’s extremely heartbreaking and sad and I don’t know that people understand the impact something like that can have on them and on other people and the lasting effect that can have on lives.”
Nagel-Meyer says her husband is upbeat, but in a lot of pain.
She says, “It’s just incredibly sad to see someone that’s been so strong, so athletic laying there and not being able to do things for himself.”
After he is released from the hospital, Meyer will need extensive therapy.
If you’d like to contribute to the fund to help pay medical expenses of John Meyer you can make a donation to the John F. Meyer Fund at any Veridian Credit Union.
