Deanna’s Dumplings At Center Grove Orchard
This recipe makes enough for 4-6 apples depending on the size of the apple. Peel and core apples. Wrap with your favorite pie crust keeping the top opened. Place in greased pan.
Stuffing:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (add more or less to liking)
- ½ teaspoon salt (add more or less to liking)
- 1 stick soften butter
Mix together with a pastry blender and stuff into wrapped apple
Liquid:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt (add more or less to liking)
- 1 teaspoom cinnamon (add more or less to liking)
- 1 cup apple cider
Whisk together and pour over wrapped and stuffed apple filling the pan ½ way. Any extra can be used to pour/baste over apples midway through baking.
Bake at 350
After 30 minutes baste with more liquid, then continue baking for 10-15 more minutes. Crust should be golden brown and the apple should be soft.
Baking time will vary depending on the type of apple ie. Mcintosh will bake faster than a Granny Smith.
After cooling top with caramel, whipped topping, ice cream or all three!
