DEADLY ACCIDENT: Names Of Hunters Released In River Crash

A Davenport man is one of two men killed in a Mississippi River boating accident.

David Slater, 50, of Davenport and Thomas Trainer, 42, of Canton, Illinois were identified by the Rock Island County Coroner.

Slater and Trainer died when the jon boat they were riding in with five other duck hunters hit a buoy in the river. One man was thrown into the water and the other was thrown into the buoy.

Five other men on the boat survived the crash. Four had serious injuries and were airlifted to Iowa City for treatment. One man was treated at a Quad Cities-area hospital.

The cause of death for the two men had not yet been determined. Autopsies were planned for Monday, October 22.
