Monday night, the city council will approve the layoff of nine parks and recreation employees.

For the last few years, the city shared 12 employees with the Des Moines International Airport. The workers maintained parks from April to October then helped with snow removal at the airport from November to March.

In August, the airport said they no longer needed the employees.

Twelve positions were on the chopping blockbut through attrition and promotions the city will only have to cut nine employees.
