Investigators are releasing the cause of death for an Ogden woman they say was murdered by her husband over the weekend.

An autopsy performed by the State Medical Examiner’s Office determined 25-year-old Jaclyn Powell died of asphyxiation due to strangulation.

Powell’s body was found in her home Sunday morning, after her husband Josh Powell called 911 saying that his wife was dead. Court records say Josh admitted to having an argument with Jaclyn the night before and he struck her, causing her death. Josh said he checked for a pulse but did not find one.

Josh Powell left the home but returned the following morning to make the 911 call.

He is charged with first degree murder in the case and is being held in the Boone County Jail on a bond of $2 million.
